In the United Kingdom, the Yellow Card scheme collects and monitors reports of suspected safety concerns or incidents related to medicines, vaccines, medical devices, and e-cigarettes. It is operated by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), an executive agency of the Department of Health and Social Care. Healthcare professionals and members of the public can voluntarily report these concerns or incidents.
The scheme serves as an early warning system for identifying products that may require further investigation. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the MHRA has established a coronavirus-specific Yellow Card site where healthcare professionals and patients can report suspected side effects to medicines, COVID-19 vaccines (both current and future), and incidents involving medical devices.
These COVID-19 vaccine-related Yellow Cards information summaries and reports started in February 2021, delivered on weekly basis until end of 2022, and are now delivered monthly. These information have stats on applied doses and the side effects for the different vaccines manufacturers. We have over 80 html summaries and 220 pdf reports delivered from MHRA since the beginning to analise.
The main objective of the this Yellow Card analysis is to provide a detailed timeline on vaccine side effects and correlate this information with the same chain of events occurring in US. This is a significant task.
We expect to finish this project in 9 months.
