V-Damage Project: Fertility Analysis
Project Summary
The purpose of this project is to monitor the possible impact of Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns and vaccines on fertility trends. As the long-term impact of the novel Covid-19 inoculations on fertility is uncertain, we propose to build a monitoring tool that will allow us to measure and track any significant deviations from normal trends. We also propose to investigate the overall determinnants of fertility using multi-factor models that have as an input economic and sociological variables.
Project Timeline
We expect to finish this project in 12 months.
Months 1 to 6
- Investigate data sources and construct internal databases with births data.
- Analyse long-term trends in fertility rates and births.
Months 6 to 9
- Implementation of multi-factor regression with several explanatory variables (multi-country model in R or excel)
- Individual country reports.
- Multi-Country report.
Months 9 to 12
- Web page to output research, track fertility trends and deviations from trends.
Project costs
The costs described below represent an estimate of the effective costs of running a scientific project and publishing the work through a public website. Some of the costs could be shared with other ongoing projects.
Research and data management (1,200 man-hour - 30,000 USD)
- Data collecting, cleaning, and processing (data management and API development);
- Data analysis and modeling (data architecture implementation and data visualization).
- Data architecture implementation and data visualization.
Research and report production/review (600 man-hour - 15,000 USD)
- Convert technical data analisys to a report, simplifying scientific language for better comprehension;
- Collaborate with data analysts to validate the information presented in the report, ensuring that the content is not misrepresented while also improving the language proficiency.
Web Development, maintenance, and support costs. IT staff. (900 man-hour - 22,500 USD)
- Compensation for Web developers, IT staff.
- Improving website functionality, navigation and underlying technologies (ASP, JAVA, VBScripts)
- Expaning website to include new research from data scientists.
- Maintenance and support of the website, including fixing bugs and updating the software and databases;
- Ensure the security of the website and the data stored on it. Implementing firewalls, encrypting sensitive data, and securing access to the website;
- Support data scientisits with data architecture implementation/APIs.
Web Hosting and IT infrastructure (2y) (3,190 USD)
- Licenses for development tools, frameworks, and libraries will be largely open source but some cloud services, security and IDE subscription libraries may have associated costs.
- Host and run the website (2y), rent server space, set up databases, and configure networks. Data storage and processing infrastructure will rely on cloud storage or an on-premises data center.
Total estimated costs are: 70,690 USD.
