V-Damage: Excess deaths
Project Summary
The objective of this project is to ensure the ongoing maintenance, updates, and improvements of the V-Damage excess mortality project. At same time perform new analysis by adding new countries to the study.
The project starts with implementing a more automated process for updating the internal databases with the latest data. The automation process will also enhance the existing databases and ensure scalability to other countries. Afterwards, we will perform the excess mortality analysis for new countries and develop an API interface to provide direct access to raw data, compiled data, and data analysis using our excess death methodology, as well as the data on Covid-19 vaccination, making it accessible to everyone.
Project Timeline
We expect to finish this project in 6 months.
Months 1 to 3:
- Perform excess mortality analises (R and C#) to improve speed, data verification and database automation updates.
- Reproduce and check excess mortality analisys using the new integrated software.
- Get updated data for population, deaths and vaccination to update existing analises.
Months 2 to 4:
- Create new or scale the databases for updates and new countries.
- Start of API development to provide public direct access to the data.
- Investigate data sources for population, deaths and vaccination data for new countries (Canada, South Africa, Brasil, Israel ...).
- Start of dashboard design to query data and download the data. Integrate API.
Months 3 to 5:
- Perform analisys methods 1, 2 and 3, for new countries.
- Produce individual country reports.
- Crete new web page to output research for some countries and update existing webpages including new countries.
Months 4 to 6:
- Refine and optimize the website user experience and interface.
- Final API testing and quality assurance.
Project Costs
The costs to consider are values that represents fraction of the effective costs that are shared with other projects.
Research and data management (600 man-hour - 15,000 USD)
- Data collecting, cleaning, processing (data management and API development);
- Data analysis and modeling (data architecture implementation and data visualization).
Research and report production (200 man-hour - 5,000 USD)
- Convert technical data analisys to a report, simplifying scientific language for better comprehension;
- Collaborate with data analysts to validate the information presented in the report, ensuring that the content is not misrepresented while also improving the language proficiency.
Development, maintenance, and support costs (500 man-hour - 12,500 USD)
- Maintenance and support of the website, including fixing bugs and updating the software and databases;
- Ensure the security of the website and the data stored on it, implementing firewalls, encrypting sensitive data, and securing access to the website;
- Data architecture implementation.
Hosting and infrastructure (2y) (3,190 USD)
- Licenses for development tools, frameworks, and libraries will be largely open source but some cloud services, security and IDE subscription libraries may have associated costs.
- Host and run the website, rent server space, set up databases, and configure networks. Data storage and processing infrastructure will rely on cloud storage or an on-premises data center.
Total estimates costs are: 35,690 USD.
